2011 Mitsubishi Galant Overview

Japanese Manufactures Mitsubishi designed the new version known, Galant has over the years been able to find loyal customers who know galant as a quality car with power and feature. Mitsubishi has reputation in Japan for its quality and endurance and is the sixth largest car manufacturer of Japan. 

The 2011 Mitsubishi Galant has a choice of two trim levels, which are the ES and SE.  Standard features for the ES include, cruise control, driver-seat height adjustment and a six-speaker stereo with CD player.  However, the SE trim offers a lot more driver accessories, some of them are, a back-up camera, heated mirrors, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, Blue-tooth, and a navigation system.  

Power wise, the engine in the standard model is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that gets 160 hp and 157 pound-feet of torque.  These figures fall behind most of the other mid size sedans in its class.  The Galant has only a four speed automatic gearbox, while its competition has five and six gear options available.  The car will give you 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg while on the highway.

Starting at $21,599 this vehicle seems like a great deal, and it is, if you don't mind the lack of power.  It is a great sedan for just cruising or for daily commuting as long as you aren't expecting any form of excitement from the drive.  It does prove to be a smooth ride when you finally get the 3,400 pounds of metal in motion.  Although, there is a surprising amount of road feel through the seat and the steering wheel. 

Interior quality seems to be sub-par, it is difficult to see the controls, and basically the inside functions are just outdated.  The seats are comfortable and the cabin provides adequate room for passengers. 

The cargo space is 13.3 cubic feet, but a disappointing factor is that the rear seats don't fold down.  In government crash tests the Galant had high scores when tested for frontal and side impacts.  Standard safety features include, stability control,  anti-lock brakes, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. 

At the end of the day the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant falls behind the competition in many ways.  If you want a predictable car that is ideal for driving around town, then the Galant is the one for you.  It is a family sedan that rides as such and you shouldn't expect more than that from this latest Mitsubishi.  The positive aspect about the Galant is the price, but is affordability worth the flaws?  If you are a fan of Mitsubishi it just might be, if you're not, then you may want to consider a sedan with more to offer.

Now here is the caveat – the features like touchscreen navigation and the rear view camera is available only is the entry level ES model and you will be paying extra in the SE model if you plan to avail of the features described  in the Mitsubishi site.

Trims and Model Variations

The 2011 Mitsubishi Galant comes in Two trims – the ES and the Sports version SE. Both the  models come with 2.4-liter, 160-horsepower MIVEC engine. Both  have 4-speed Sportronic automatic transmission. The SE version come with some extra features including touch-screen navigation system based upon DVD and  rear-view backup camera. The rear view is especially convenient if you reside in an area with kids playing around. The navigation system is probably too expensive for its price and feature it offers. The SE version also has Rockford Acoustic Design audio system and Power glass sunroof – You must take your own decision if these justify the extra price you will be paying for the SE version.
